Candidates may not be full time, part time, or PRN with any affiliated facility. RN's must pass a fail exam during the orientation. It is an open book exam on skills learned, and all necessary resources will be provided to assist in passing. A score of 90% is required to pass, or termination will occur. A driver's license is required for submission and will be used to determine proximity. The department consists of LDRP rooms and C-section OR suites. The unit has 16 LDRP rooms and 1 OR room for C-sections. The average number of births is 35 per month. AWHONN guidelines for ratios are followed: 1:3 mother-baby care and 1:1 for laboring. Common diagnoses include obstetrical cases, with a level II NICU available to manage cases above 32 weeks. L&D nurses will also provide postpartum and newborn care. Common titratable or set rate drips include oxytocin, magnesium, Cytotec, PPH, and hypertension protocols. There is a charge nurse on each shift, and they do take an assignment. The unit has a 24/7 OB tech support. There is 24/7 NP coverage and neonatal transport availability. The EFM system used is Novii. Shifts are scheduled from 6:30 PM to 6:30 AM with self-scheduling options available to staff. Weekend requirements are every other weekend, and holiday requirements are rotating. Travelers may be asked to work a holiday if it falls within the assigned contract. Floating to the NICU for feeder/grower babies may occur if the labor and delivery unit is closed or busy, but this is optional. Certified lactation consultants are available on staff. Attributes that will aid a traveler in being successful on this unit include being easygoing, adaptable, having a can-do questioning attitude, and displaying a strong work ethic. Preadmission clinics and tours are conducted by staff, and massage therapy is offered to patients. RTO is needed upfront for 7 or fewer days for the 13-week contract. Additional RTO will not be approved after submissions. The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts for a 13-week assignment. Charting is performed using EPIC. A BSN is required for submission. The care setting is acute. The division is nursing.
