General job duties: - Functions in the scrub role by preparing, organizing, and anticipating needed instruments, supplies, and equipment for safe patient care and operative procedure. - Will not first assist with any procedure; will not do any incision closures. - May apply skin staples when skin edges have been approximated by credentialed physician/PA/APRN. - May apply skin sealant and steristrips as part of the dressing after skin has been closed. - Defines and practices aseptic technique and infection control principles as they apply to the OR. - Safely and efficiently passes surgical instruments and supplies in the operating room (OR) and labor and delivery room (LDR); properly identifies, preserves and manages tissue and fluid specimens and cultures. - Manages supplies, instruments and equipment appropriately according to Medical Center procedure. - Assists the nurse in perioperative care of the patient including transporting and positioning; counts/preps surgical instruments and supplies. - Delivers medications (drugs or biologicals) received in the surgical suite to the appropriate operating room via case cart or medication cart. - Handles and prepares medication for use on the sterile field in the operating room under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and physician. - Participates in unit-based activities, staff meetings, and committees. 2. Equipment utilized in the unit/dept.: Computer systems: eChart (electronic charting system); SIS, MAK, O.R.Storz 1 Video and routing equipment. Surgical Equipment: Storz Video equipment, Midas; Stryker drills; Leica Microscopes, Storz morcellator; Foce Triad Cautery machines; Force FX cautery machines; Aquamantys machines; Ostemoed drills; Sani Serve fluid warmer/cooler. Surgical Beds/positions: Jackson spine tables; Jackson fracture tables; Tenent positioner; Skytron and Getinge O.R. beds. 3. Required skills and minimum years of experience: Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology or successful completion of a Surgical Technology program required 9/30/24 (will not accept on-the-job training). 3 years' experience in busy surgical area required. Must have STRONG experience in 3 to 4 of the following areas: - General: robotic and open procedures - GYN: robotic and open procedures - Urology: robotic and open procedures - Vascular: cartorid, AAA, hybrid cases, open procedures - Robotics: Davinci XI - Ortho: Fractures, total joints - ENT: pediatrics, T&As, BMTs, parathyroid, thyroid, neck, ear, sinus procedures - Some dental and plastics 4. Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required: BLS required CST preferred 5. Shift or schedule requirements: There may be some Call depending on volumes. 6.
